Teen Driver Information

Students are required to go directly to the D.M.V. to obtain a Connecticut State Drivers Permit if they are sixteen or seventeen years old. It is our strongest recommendation that students participate in an approved drivers education program for at least three weeks before taking the required 25 question permit exam. Should a student desire additional assistance please don't hesitate to request extra help from their classroom instructor. Please remember in order to qualify for a four month permit a student must take thirty hours of classroom and eight hours of behind-the-wheel lessons.

Western Connecticut Driving prides itself in our state certified, DMV approved curriculum. The quality of our course is not only the education a student will receive, but also the safety knowledge one needs to be a defensive driver.

8- HOUR DRUG/ALCOHOL-SAFE DRIVING COURSE
Western Connecticut Driving offers this program to all new license applicants. This class must be completed before a license will be issued. Connecticut State law requires all new license applicants to successfully complete this class before a license will be issued. During the eight hours of class students will learn the hazards of drinking and driving and substance abuse. There are visual aids for the students, and discussions to bring the topic "closer to home". In addition to the discussion, we also help the student with basic knowledge of the road.  This course, again, is offered for students who prefer home-training as opposed to a full driver training course and is available at our convenient location in Brookfield.

THE "30/8" PROGRAM
This program is designed to prepare new teen drivers for their motor vehicle license. We offer an extensive training class in order to better prepare our youth for the road.

THE BOOK

In order to assist our students in learning, a textbook is provided at no additional cost. There are many diagrams and pictures, detailed information, and quizzes to further enhance learning. The Managing Visibility Time And Space textbook is used in our driver education course.

THE VEHICLES

The vehicles we feature are all late-model, mid-sized cars, complete with dual controls to ensure the safety of our students.

CONNECTICUT STATE LAW
Due to the Connecticut state law, all students under the age of 18, are required to obtain a learner’s permit. All students must obtain the permit in order to be behind the wheel of the vehicle. Permits must be held for four months, if and only if a student goes through a full driver education course. If a student chooses home training, he or she must have a permit for six months and complete an 8 hour alcohol education course before applying for a license. OFF SITE TESTING
“Westcon” Driving can also offer off-site testing for motor vehicle licensing. Motor vehicle inspectors come right to our class locations and test the students for an actual motor vehicle license. Testing is done on our vehicle and we make all arrangements for the testing.

INSURANCE DISCOUNTS
When the student is finished with program, the Western Connecticut Driving Institute will issue a certificate good for a discount on insurance. Most insurance companies offer anywhere from 10% - 20% off yearly policy rates until a student reaches the age of 25.
